Made in Barcelona: what local fashion production really means

What does it really mean for a garment to be designed and produced in Barcelona?

At a time when a T-shirt can travel thousands of kilometers before reaching a store, producing locally seems almost an exception.

At Perfect&Basic, we believe it shouldn't be.

We are a slow fashion brand born in Barcelona. We design our garments with a very simple idea in mind: create less, but do it better. That's why we opt for limited productions, quality materials, and a much closer relationship with the people and processes that make each garment possible.

But for us, Made in Barcelona is not just a label.

It's a way of working.

Barcelona and the culture of fashion

Barcelona has a long relationship with design, the textile industry, and fashion creation.

Today, an ecosystem of designers, workshops, producers, and specialized professionals continues to exist around the city and its metropolitan area. From small clothing workshops to companies dedicated to weaving, printing, and finishing, local production continues to be part of Barcelona's creative and industrial fabric.

There are also institutional initiatives such as 080 Barcelona Fashion, promoted by the Generalitat de Catalunya, which works to position Catalonia as an international benchmark in fashion design, production, and distribution.

For a small brand, being part of this environment means something important: being able to maintain a much more direct relationship with the creative process.

Designing locally changes the way things are done

When design and production are close, it's easier to pay attention to the details.

A fabric.

A pattern.

A seam.

An embroidery.

A print.

A small modification in the fit.

Each of these decisions is part of the final result.

At Perfect&Basic, we don't want to produce garments massively and then look for someone to sell them to.

We prefer to develop our garments with a different mindset: first think about what we want to create and then produce in limited quantities.

That's one of the reasons why our collections are not intended to keep up with trends.

Fast fashion needs speed.

We prefer time.

Producing less is also a decision

One of the problems of the fashion industry is the enormous quantity of garments produced to constantly respond to new trends.

More collections.

More new items.

More products.

More consumption.

At Perfect&Basic, we believe there is another possibility.

Produce less and give more value to each garment.

Our collections are produced in limited quantities. Not because we want to artificially create a sense of exclusivity, but because we believe it makes more sense to produce in a more controlled way.

A T-shirt should not become waste simply because it is no longer trendy.

That's why we seek to create garments that can accompany you for much longer.

Proximity also means control

Producing locally does not automatically make a garment sustainable.

And we believe it's important to say that.

Something being made in Barcelona does not, in itself, mean it has a low environmental impact.

Sustainability depends on many decisions:

• What materials we use.
• How those materials are produced.
• How much we produce.
• How the garment is manufactured.
• How long it can last.
• How we care for it.
• And what happens to it when it is no longer used.

That's why at Perfect&Basic, we understand sustainability as a set of decisions, not as a label.

Our starting point is to try to make garments that make sense: good materials, timeless designs, limited production, and a closer relationship with the process.

Organic cotton and quality

One of our commitments is to use 100% organic cotton in our oversized T-shirts, with a weight of 220 g/m².

We don't choose this fabric solely because it's organic cotton.

We also seek a certain feel when worn: structure, weight, comfort, and durability.

Our white oversized T-shirt, for example, combines 220 g/m² organic cotton with a relaxed fit, dropped shoulders, and embroidered details. It is designed in Barcelona and is part of our philosophy of creating basics with their own identity.

Because for us, a basic doesn't mean a boring garment.

It means a garment you can wear again and again.

Why produce in Barcelona?

The first answer is simple:

Because we want to be close to what we do.

We want to be able to know the process.

Work with local professionals.

Review the details.

Detect errors.

Improve.

And, above all, have a more human relationship with production.

In an extremely long production chain, each step can be very far from whoever ultimately designs or buys the garment.

We want to reduce that distance.

We cannot control absolutely everything that happens in the textile industry.

But we can decide how we want to start.

Local fashion does not mean perfect fashion

We don't believe that producing locally automatically makes a brand perfect.

Nor do we believe that a garment made far away is necessarily bad.

The reality is much more complex.

But we do believe that proximity allows for different decisions to be made.

It allows for a better understanding of those involved in the process.

It allows for working in smaller quantities.

It allows for more direct quality control.

And it allows for building a brand that is more conscious of what it does.

For us, that is the true meaning of Made in Barcelona.

It's not simply where a garment ends up.

It's where a certain way of understanding fashion begins.

Barcelona as a starting point

Perfect&Basic was born in Barcelona, but we don't want Barcelona to be just a location.

It's part of our identity.

Of our way of understanding design.

Of our way of dressing.

Of that mix of Mediterranean, urban, and contemporary that defines our city.

That's why our garments seek exactly the same thing:

simple, yet with character.

minimalist, yet not impersonal.

timeless, yet contemporary.

And always with the intention of creating something you can continue to wear when the trend that inspired it has already disappeared.

Choose better

Fashion doesn't necessarily need more clothes.

It needs better decisions.

Buying a garment should be more than choosing a color or a silhouette.

Is it designed to last?
